Notes > Laura: “When you are dating, you are studying and deciding whether you like a face. It occurred to me that when other people are talking is the only time that you don’t have to break your gaze.” > After struggling to follow up Build A Church With Debris, Anything, Everything got us back on track. > Rob: “We flew in sound effects from jam sessions with various instruments and effects. Mitch Easter often added interesting mystery sounds in Let’s Active songs, especially on Cypress. I always liked how there were painterly moments on those records that I could not identify.” > When we were casually demoing the song, Laura loved the sound of the Martin baritone ukulele running through the DOD Tec4 unit, which we ended up using to process nearly everything in the song. We might have followed a more conventional recording route if she had not commented on how much she liked the sound of this. Not only did this change Anything, Everything, but it also altered our entire method of recording from this point onwards. >
