about

Recording Day One > July 26th, 2017
Final Mix > August 14th, 2017
Selected Instruments > Yamaha VSS-200, Crudman, Mellotron, Rubber Stingray Bass >

Notes > The primary keyboard sound is a sample of Rob’s voice. > The song also features Chamberlin and Mellotron samples. > Rob: “I have only played a real Chamberlin once at Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium studio in North Carolina during Baskervilles sessions. I fell in love with the sound.” > Rob: “The words came from a poem about childhood. It is the first of three songs on the album about childhood.” > This was the first song written for the album. > The beats and breaks are a nod to Ariel Pink’s early work. I have been attracted to a lo-fi, homemade sound since first seeing Home in Tampa in the 1990s and acquiring Richard Barone’s Snails demo tape recorded on 4-track tape at Recnac studios in the 1970s. Finding a balance between lo-fi and hi-fi is much more difficult than choosing one style over the other. While hi-fi recordings might sound polished, they typically iron out all of the distortion, wrinkles and intriguing elements. >

Build A Church With Debris (R.Keith)
July 26th, 2017 - August 14th, 2017

whispering
needle straw black forest tree
Dennis sticks his spoon in his tea
build a church with debris

cosmetics
what should I put on this beach?
gates timekeeping on the beat

remember
the dirt and the sea
rearranging sea arranging changing

daydream
a dream
wet street sounding
a ceiling

arranging
whispering
