Selected Instruments > Yamaha VSS-200, Kay C-1 Concert Bass, Coles 4038, pandeiro, cuica, can of Quaker Oats (eventually spilled), Earnest tenor guitar, a load of Brazilian percussion, Mid-Fi Medium Fidelity Delay >

Notes > Rob: “I often free associate on the subway and save these ideas for lyrics. I wanted a wordy song. Many of my compositions from the album use sonics to express moods more than words, but I tried to do the opposite here.” > The early 1990s were brothel creepers, combat boots and Manic Panic. > The rhythm for the song is a recreated version of Nêga do Cabelo Duro by Bando da Lua from 1949. Although the percussion sounds vintage, it was not sampled. Virtually everything was recorded through a ribbon mic to get that vintage sound. The style of percussion is called maracatu in Brazil. > This is one of several songs featuring horns. We have a fondness for KPM 2000 library music, soul music from the 1970s and Playboy & Playgirl by the Pizzicato Five. > Like Anything, Everything, this song features experimental sounds from jam sessions. > The song was structured quickly, but we had trouble sucking the Disney out of the last verse. >
