Let It Come Down (R.Keith)

Recording Day One > October 26th, 2020
Final Mix > February 6th, 2021
Selected Instruments > Accordion, Zabumba, Cavaquinho, Martin Baritone Ukulele, Triangle, Kay C-1 Bass, Soundtoys Devil-Loc >

Notes > Rob: “Let It Come Down is our effort to weld Brazilian forró onto an Estate Owns The Ghost Show song. I first heard forró through Gilberto Gil on Tropicalia records, but I didn’t know what the genre was called until buying David Byrne’s Forró compilation on Luaka Bop. Ever since then, I have been a fanatical forró collector. I started a forró blog called Forró LP Gringo in 2012. > Let It Come Down features percussion by Scott Kettner, recorded in 2012, and accordion by Rob Curto, recorded in 2021. Every instrument in Brazilian music is rhythmic. When someone from the United States or Europe discusses a genre like country or rock music, we often think of a sound or image. When you talk about most Brazilian genres like samba or forró, you are talking about rhythm. Every instrument acts as a member of a rhythmic ecosystem.” > Rob Curto’s accordion did not sound like forró until distortion was added with a Soundtoys Devil-Loc. It is interesting that we used a Devil-Loc in a song about Evangelicals. Do not neglect our planet. >

lyrics

Let It Come Down (R.Keith)
October 26th, 2020 - February 6th, 2021

Maybe I’ll see you one day
Sitting next to me
Trust the word you say
You sing
Let it come down
Let it break the clouds
The water is rising
You’re overjoyed, I can see
Homegoing will come one day
You sing
Let it come down
Let it break the clouds
You want to be under leaves?
Pay the boatman at the sea?
I have things I’m doing
Go on without me
I’d like to walk away
I’m chained to your feet
You can leave
I’ll stay...
Let it come down
Let it break the clouds
