Notes > Laura: “It is an experience that I have had for years. It mainly used to be about my age and feeling like I was not taken seriously as a young woman. I felt people often disregarded what I was saying or denied what I was claiming. Now, I feel that way but it feels like it has to do with class and feeling as though what people assume about me and my history is usually incorrect and reductionist. It’s something we all do on some level. We fill in the backstory of others without any real understanding of their experiences. I wrote this song in Barcelona.” > Rob: “We started off trying to do something in the style of Joe Meek, but we ended up with a song that sounds like it would have slotted into a 1986 John Hughes movie. We learned throughout the process of making this album to let the best elements of a song take it where it needs to go. Erase everything that isn’t working, regardless of how much time you have spent on it.” > Yet again, the end was assembled through fragments of recorded jams with synths and effects. >

Projection Screen (L.Keith)
August 13th, 2019 - December 26th, 2020

You’re back again and you want to talk but it’s never a two way street.
You always dominate and see what you want every time we meet.
Machine gets hot, the gears spin, the story starts, and the light is blinding.
Projection screen, there I go again, being who you want me to be
Projection screen, there you go again, seeing who you want to see.
But do you ever see me? Do you ever see me?
There you go again..
Our conversations are always amiss when you stare at me waiting to speak.
Then you twist my words and make assumptions. Your comments show that you’re barely listening.
Projection screen, there I go again, being who you want me to be
Projection screen, there you go again, seeing who you want to see.
But do you ever see me? Do you ever see me?
