Tell Me Now (L.Keith)

Recording Day One > December 27th, 2020
Final Mix > January 25th, 2021
Selected Instruments > Coles 4038, Muffled Snare, Resonance Circuits Space Explorer, Kay C-1 Bass, SM7B,

Notes: > Laura: ”This song is about a bad relationship I was in with a sad man a long time ago.” > Tell Me Now is the only song on Build A Church With Debris in 6/8 time. > The rhythm is similar to Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, but the drums are heavily treated. > We processed the drums through the Resonance Circuits Space Explorer, using techniques borrowed from dub reggae. Using dub is a nice alternative to playing standard drum fills. > You will hear heavy reverb on selected instruments. One of the best examples of how sound can be altered with obscene amounts of reverb is the single version of Donovan’s Catch The Wind. > Laura played a Risa Ukulele in a chain through: MXR blue 10 band EQ - Mid-Fi Electronics Scrape Filter - Mid-Fi Electronics Random Phase &/ Vibrato - Digitech Two Second Delay - ZVex LoFi Junky to get many of the sound effects that bubble in the background. >

Tell Me Now (L.Keith)
December 27th, 2020 - January 25th, 2021

If you’re not coming home tonight.
If your texts are just a lie.
If you’re trying to start a fight.
Tell me now, Tell me now, Tell me now, and I’ll get to sleep somehow.
If you’re looking for trouble right now.
Digging deeper into the ground.
You’re not happy with what you’ve found.
Tell me now, Tell me now, Tell me now, and I’ll move out somehow.
If you were done long ago, grow up babe, and let me know.
Being a pawn in this game...
used to excite me but it’s not the same.
Let’s take, let’s take, let’s take a step toward goodbye.
If you’re feeling at home with the blame.
Comfortable here in the shame.
Sharing the burden of pain.
Tell me now, Tell me now, Tell me now, and I’ll forget you somehow.
